Great post Ben! Perhaps it is a training thing and people are not getting enough guidance to do this correctly. I loved all the practical examples. Thanks for writing and sharing!

Training does go a long way. When I was at Trello we didn't have much in the way of training because the organization wasn't already doing it. Mercer, who had joined the support team, had done OKRs in another organization, but it was my first time. So we sort of set our own standards.

FullStory didn't really have OKR "training", per se, but the process of giving constructive criticism about OKR wording had the effect of raising quality. I certainly coached a lot of people on my team about OKRs 1:1.

Now that I think about, having dedicated OKR training could be a major unlock for organizations for which OKRs are strategically important.
